Not sure https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eschscholzia_californica#cite_ref-16 (for Uses California poppy leaves are used as food or garnish, while the seeds are used in cooking.)) is a valid source. It rates it edible: 1/5 and medicinal 3/5, which is insane W;ChangingUsername (talk) 11:36, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Possible typo/malapropism?

Under the section about the poppy as the state flower of California, the second sentence of the second paragraph reads: "Asserting claims of indignity, territorial dominance, and communal identity, white settlers strategically orchestrated a deliberate movement to construct a cultural identity centered around the golden poppy.[15]" (emphasis added)

The dictionary.com site defines "indignity" as "an injury to a person's dignity; slighting or contemptuous treatment; humiliating affront, insult, or injury."

I'm not sure what word was intended here (indigeneity seems possible, but since this is explicitly described as a movement by white settlers it seems -- unlikely? Or at least inappropriate, though I suppose they might have asserted it at the time. If so, it should probably be unpacked a bit.)

"Indignity" is clearly wrong, but should it be replaced or simply removed? If it should be replaced, what should it be replaced by? Anakyria (talk) 18:01, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
