[edit]

Fred W Talbot (the W is for Winston). He was a founding member of the Altrincham and District Astronomy Society, and remains involved to today. He taught Biology at Altrincham Grammar School, and during this period also recorded a weekly Astronomical programme for Radio Manachester. This branched out into occasional spots on Granada Reports, usually when something like a Lunar Eclipse was due. The TV work continued until Granada commissioned Fred to appear in a general 'science for kids' style programme called The Final Frontier. Fred remained a regular on Granada Reports and then landed the TV weatherman spot, for which he has little formal training.

Although this story in The Sun appears to be reasonably reliable, there is a WP:BLPCRIME issue as Talbot has not been arrested or charged with any offence. Unless this happens, it should not be mentioned in the article.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 08:02, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Talbot has been arrested, but WP:BLPCRIME still applies.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 12:53, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted this edit as per WP:BLPCRIME as he's not actually been convicted or charged with any offence. Hope this was the right decision. --andy4789 · (talk? contribs?) 15:50, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This is a difficult area for WP:BLPCRIME. Some articles, including Dave Lee Travis and Jim Davidson (comedian) mention the arrests, which have been widely reported in the media. Some senior judges want the UK media to be unable to name a person who has been arrested, following the shambles in the Murder of Joanna Yeates.[1]--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 16:18, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Since he HAS now been arrested, I have added this fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.232.169.69 (talk) 17:00, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What happened in January 2014 is that he was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service with ten historical sex offences.[2]. Being arrested is not the same thing as being charged; this is a common misconception.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 17:17, 29 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

End of television career

[edit]

Re this edit: It isn't in dispute that Talbot's home was raided in December 2012, but it isn't quite so easy to source that he hasn't appeared on the television since then. This source says "Talbot also revealed he has not earned any money or worked on TV since being charged in January 2014 as he is employed on a freelance basis by ITV1" which isn't quite the same as saying that his final appearance on TV was in December 2012.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 05:11, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re this edit: WP:OR says "Articles may not contain any new analysis or synthesis of published material that serves to reach or imply a conclusion not clearly stated by the sources themselves." This is what the tweets are being used for, and Twitter isn't an ideal source anyway. It is likely that he didn't do the weather forecast for Granada again after the December 2012 raid, but it should not be necessary to introduce original research while saying it. It would be better to use the Telegraph cite.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 05:53, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
