DYK
[edit]I just wanted to get something up quickly after deleting the rubbish. I should have explained that in the comments. I should have used Recent Edits instead of Random Page, but I thought that would take too long-- I didn't have long to spend on it :-) Mr. Jones 08:23, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)
No problem then Dori | Talk 19:06, Mar 22, 2004 (UTC)
I put the self links so that one could use Special:Whatlinkshere/MediaWiki:Source to find out the articles that have the message. You could use the link that's in the message too, but I find links to the MediaWiki page to be usually less cluttered. Dori | Talk 21:59, Mar 22, 2004 (UTC)
Thanks -- a quick note of gratitude for your support on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. Your vote is greatly appreciated! –Hajor
Could you say where your images come from and under what license we are using them? Thanks. Secretlondon 21:06, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Thanks - could you add tags to them - look at Wikipedia:Image Tag Team for a list. Secretlondon 21:15, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)
territories
[edit]Well I was thinking. We could use a list of organized territories, and also a list of historical posessions of the U.S.. Those might work. What do you think? -- Decumanus | Talk 19:51, 25 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Offensive user name
[edit]Your user name is offensive. Please remove the word God from it. Troll 00:57, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Hi there Jengod, are we jumping the gun a little here? Is the name really offensive? I'm worried we may be jumping to conclusions, or perhaps you already have experience with this user? Thanks! Mark Richards 01:02, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Hey there Jengod, to clarify, I have no problem with your name, and, looking around a bit, am concerned at Trolls apparent harrassment. My question was about whether the name Troll was offensive in itself, but it looks like that may be moot, since there are more serious problems. Don't worry, we'll sort it out! Mark Richards 01:11, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Troll is nothing else than a mythological creature in Norway and there is nothing offensive in my user name. JenGOD's user name is highly offensive, at least to non-atheists and should be changed by force if she doesn't confess. It is against the NPOV philosophy of Wikipedia to have an administrator with user names like this. Jen"god", please change your user name to JenG or JG, except if you leave Wikipedia and refrain from editing. (Another admin, Hephaestos, blocked me, so hence the sock puppet). Troll2 01:41, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)
You are featured in Wikipedia:Offensive User Names Havers Club. muahahahaha!!!! Love2troll 03:47, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Darn. Some people have all the luck. I want in!!! Fennec 06:29, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Question
[edit]Jen are you my Ex-girlfriend Jenna (She would create a user name like this)?--Plato 02:37, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Not to butt in, but jesus that was funny. →Raul654 02:39, Mar 26, 2004 (UTC)
Well, you seemed to me, to my old Girlfriend Jenna, I didn't know, where you from out of interest?--Plato 04:23, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)

U.S. Regions Proposal

Please Reconsider
[edit]I hope that you will reconsider your decision to leave the project, you have been a very good contributor. Please stay and discuss the matters you disagree with, I'm not sure about the taxoboxes but I'm sure that something can be worked out the naming conventions. Balance is something that is very important if you feel that things are getting excessive, I wish that you would stay and try to work out a compromise. Also if you leave there will not be no female participants.

Kerry edits
[edit]Jengod, I was already editing and merging the new Kerry material when you made your edits. I merged yours with mine, q.v. A better edit conflict procedure is at the top of my wishlist! :) Cheers! Cecropia 19:09, 30 Mar 2004 (UTC)
copy editors, untie!

DYK
[edit]I changed the DYK so it made sense, but it seems to me that our article at cell growth is about cell reproduction. And the article uses a pipe to link "selective advantage" to "natural selection". So would it be better to pick a more straightforward fact?? - Nunh-huh 06:46, 31 Mar 2004 (UTC)
RFA
[edit]Should I ask about your comment regarding Decumanus, or is it just one of those delightfully absurd days? ;-) Thanks for the amusement, even if the "kill you" comment at the end was a bit frightening. :-) Jwrosenzweig 01:54, 1 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Jengod, may I ask why you support Cecropia's nominations for adminship? Get-back-world-respect 13:58, 1 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit]Nice April Fools. People take things too seriously. Does this mean I have to go to the Wikipedia sock hop with you? :) -- Decumanus | Talk 21:40, 1 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- Well to be fair, I stumbled on it myself only after 24 hours, with 8 votes already cast. After that it was just too much fun wondering how it would take... :) -- Decumanus | Talk 18:16, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Down the rabbit hole
[edit]So... First of all, I really like the changes you made to the sidebar. What would be wrong with just leaving the list of topics as it is. If it gets expanded, great, if not, oh well. --Alex S 02:26, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
DYK problem..
[edit]Hi! I noticed your recent update of DYK (great work with that, by the way!), and gasped when I saw the red fox article; I had spent some time writing one on the same subject this evening, and was about to post it (so you can imagine, I felt pretty bad). That's not the problem, of course: rather, it seems this red fox article is a copyright violation from at least two sources. But.. I don't know what to replace it with, so I'm hesitant to slam the shutters on it immediately.
I'd post my own version under the now-vacant lowercase title and switch the link, but I'm too modest for that. ;) So, do you think this would be, er.. interesting enough to feature?
- ...that Austrian journalist Günther Nenning is nicknamed Auhirsch, meaning "meadow deer"?
It's the best I could pick out. Anyway, sorry for rambling. :) -- Hadal 03:44, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- *blush*.. okay, I'll do it. :) While I know DYK is free for anyone to edit, you do such a professional job of it that I feel I should confer with you first! (Yeah, I know.. silly me ;) I'll also look at island fox although I'm sure it's just fine. {{hugs back}} -- Hadal 04:58, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
More foxiness
[edit]Hey, nicely done! (Really!) I feel a bit guilty for finding the situation of one endangered species threatening the existence of another sort of amusing. It's a solid article, and I like how you've come back to update it. I only formatted the taxobox and fixed a typo, and reworded the "mmm, piglets!" bit so as not to offend any vegans. :)
Speaking of guilt, I should go give my dog a treat as a way of atoning for my earlier brashness. It could be a start of a worrying trend! ;) -- Hadal 06:20, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Swing States
[edit]The missing one was Washington. Thanks, btw. I can't believe we didn't have an article on that... Meelar 20:49, 2 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Heheh -- actually, about 30% of English words have Latin origins. I'll try to restrict myself to the most obvious and frequently-used. :-)
Useless Facts
[edit]Hey...you are the Jen from Deb and Jen's Land O' Useless Facts? That's crazy...that is one of the first websites I ever visited when I first got an Internet connection, back in 1996. Small world :) Adam Bishop 20:10, 3 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]for the compliment. Though I gotta say, Dec's map is icing on the cake. My stuff was mostly culled from a whole lot of web sites with a boggling array of contradictory information. I think both NC and SC try to claim their separation occured earlier than it officially did in 1729. I finally found an online version of a history from 1904 which had copious citations, so it at least had a bit more authoritative feel to it. Bkonrad | Talk 15:31, 6 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Erythrina again
[edit]We chatted a couple of months ago about Erythrina. On a recent visit to Florida, I happened to find a species of these (the coral bean) in bloom, so I have put up a page about it, which you might like to look at. seglea 05:19, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)
thanks
[edit]Jengod,
Thanks for your vote in re my admin nomination.
Since I haven't noticed you in the crypto corner of things, I suppose you're a crypto lurker. If so, can I entice you to pass on a few evaluations of what you read, most especially if you're not a crypto specialist. I'm interested in reactions from the non-crypto types in the interest of warping at the general coverage articles into greater accessibility to the general reader. I'll offer to return the favor for articles you want a reader reaction about. (Churchill would disapprove of that last, but I'll leave it).
Anyway, thanks again.
ww 21:06, 14 Apr 2004 (UTC)
J,
No math required, at least for the perspective I hope for. Crypto is indeed mathematical down in the innards, but it's the outards that I was hoping for comment on. That part ain't so stinkin' mathy. If you look over an article and it immediately starts bleating about group theory and obscure results in information theory, that wasn't one of the articles I was looking for perspective on. Try 'secure channel' or 'diplomatic bag' or the untechnical bits of the Enigma or Purple articles.
And thanks for the hint as to how you (a non crypto type) were even aware I had been active on WP. I didn't expect that every one had seen my one and only cat article edit. Though someone did!
Just notice all the terminal preposition sentences. Hope you can stand them.

In use
[edit]Hey Jen - just a piece of advice - when you want to do a major edit, the best way to make sure someone doesn't screw it up is to put this:
{{inuse}} →Raul654
and protect the page while you are changing it. If you're editing a mediawiki page, don't use the msg-inuse, but it still helps to protect it. You never know when someone will come along and miss html comments like that. →Raul654 18:13, Apr 15, 2004 (UTC)
- Not quite - mediawiki messages aren't recursive, so putting one mediawiki message into another would just create garbage output - not something we want on the main page. But protecting it is still a good idea. →Raul654 18:31, Apr 15, 2004 (UTC)
