Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Details at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Bobanfasil. Wikishovel (talk) 06:32, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. All registered socks indeffed, one of the IPs' /64s blocked 2 weeks and the article added to the /40 on another one. Daniel Case (talk) 03:46, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Daniel Case: thanks for the blocks, but it looks like a wider rangeblock will be be needed: please see SPI. Wikishovel (talk) 07:16, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IPs continuously changing redirect. CNMall41 (talk) 07:37, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I assume that this is referring to PTV News Headlines, not the page above. Sdrqaz (talk) 23:58, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of one year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. PTV News Headlines, that is (the redirect). I switched the headings (for the bot) from PTV News Tonight to the redirect (i.e. what Sdrqaz was referring to). El_C 06:31, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    7-day semi-protection: High level of IP-hopping vandalism and edit warring. Cambial foliar❧ 09:04, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked: 2403:6200:8864:3F0A:0:0:0:0/64 (talk · contribs) blocked by Bbb23. for a week. Daniel Case (talk) 03:49, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent infobox vandalism by unconfirmed users. ―Jochem van Hees (talk) 11:47, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Daniel Case (talk) 03:49, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IPs updating the article earlier than they're supposed to; a few days/a week would be preferable. 4TheWynne (talk contribs) 02:11, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Earlier than they're supposed to"? Do we have a rule that says this? Daniel Case (talk) 03:54, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – It seems like at least one editor is trying to add a pro-PRC slant to the article. Insanityclown1 (talk) 02:58, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Highly visible page, has been vandalized by IPs and vandalism-only accounts almost every day since late 2023. Things only got worse after the recent pending change protection, with these two most recent troll edits falsely implying that the subject has done illegal things: [1] [2]. An indefinite semi-protection would solve all problems here, and save a lot of time for pending change reviewers. Badbluebus (talk) 04:04, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Sorry, can't really go to indef protection after only one protection (mine being number 2). El_C 06:09, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But this page was protected in November 2023, then again last month, so that would make your protection the third one. Badbluebus (talk) 06:54, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Repeated and frequent IP vandalism. Deilann (talk) 04:07, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's over a longer period of time, but the number of IP edits that just focus on changing his pronouns or to be "scientifically" accurate are pretty substantive and feels like it merits semi-protection. Deilann (talk) 04:13, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. I ordinarily would protect this under WP:GENSEX, but last edits were in June (none in July or August), so this is quite Stale. El_C 06:13, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Constant IP vandalism/changes to team players - anonymous IPs maliciously changing information every other day. The changes are malicious, as it is clearly written that the 'nationality' should be which country they are, can or have represented. Players are also being removed even when they are listed as being part of the first team on the official team website. Yupyuphello (talk) 04:38, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Suspected edits by page subject or his supporters without discussion in IP or new accounts over the course of years:

There may be valid Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons concerns in personal life matters, but these should be discussed more explicitly rather than just edited. Recommend Permanent Semi protection. Cirosantilli2 (talk) 05:38, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.
Pending-changes protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. El_C 06:18, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, you're right about WP:NOTPUBLICFIGURE in your edit summary, Cirosantilli2, but activity is still rather low. But regardless of frequency, if it happens again, feel free to drop me a note on my talk page and we'll go from there. El_C 06:37, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Multiple IPs changing the name of the city without consensus. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talkcontribs) 06:50, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP Vandalism from 2409:40C2:10B:655F:8000:0:0:0, this person is just focused and repeatedly vandalising the article. Please approve semi protection and ban this IP for sometime. Vijesh sreenivasan (talk) 07:10, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: A genuine page was deleted.

Manoj Kumar Goswami is a unique personality, an author, journalist, who was awarded Sahitya Academy Award in 2022. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sahitya_Akademi_Award_winners_for_Assamese#Recipients

Please help restore the page or remove blockade to create a new one. Thanks. Babulgogoi (talk) 05:48, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Babulgogoi: I heavily doubt, given your request above, that you should be the one to write that page. Also, you will need to contest the deletion at WP:DRV as it was deleted via Articles for Deletion debate. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 06:01, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary pending changes: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Persistent IP attempts to add YouTube sourced content. Lard Almighty (talk) 06:38, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Might be better to replace the quote from Khelif's father (which references a statement by him to Sky Sports) with a similar quote by him which was made to Reuters. Reuters article was published a couple of hours before the Sky Sports article, and the Sky Sports article has suggested links within the article to more clickbaity articles. I'm unable to request on the talk page! https://www.reuters.com/sports/olympics/father-algerian-boxer-khelif-says-he-is-honoured-by-his-daughter-2024-08-03/ AradhanaChatterjee (talk) 00:02, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. AradhanaChatterjee, you are autoconfirmed now, and you can post at the talk page. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 03:38, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
