The result of this discussion was Do not merge. Overmage (talk) 06:53, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

But not a complete merge. I propose taking the content from both Raffles Institution (Secondary) and Raffles Institution (Junior College) and rehashing into two new articles, namely:

  • Raffles Institution, which will talk about the present situation, the combined institution, but of course with a small section on history, and;
  • Raffles Junior College, which will mainly be a (short) historical article talking about the JC that existed from 1982-2008.

This is somewhat similar to the relationship between the Hwa Chong Institution, The Chinese High School, and Hwa Chong Junior College articles. Any comments/suggestions/volunteers? - b3virq3b (talk) 13:45, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

this article is quite good —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.255.2.47 (talk) 10:46, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Do not merge They are too different, for example RI does not accept female students, classes are not run in the same style, the campuses are different and do not overlap, and their uniforms also differ. They are as similar as RI and RGS are to each other, the only things they share in common are location and name.Overmage (talk) 07:40, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Scout Groups / Raffles Debaters archived here

[edit]

Why only these two CCAs and not the others? I didn't think these two are somehow representative of all our CCAs. Unless we can provide wider coverage for BB, NCC, NPCC, and also other ccas, I'm moving them here. Makes no sense. Overmage (talk) 03:10, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Scout Groups

[edit]
Emblem of the 01 Raffles Scout Group

Raffles Institution was the first school in Singapore to establish a Scout troop.[1]

The 01 Raffles Scout Group was founded in 1934. It was formerly known as the 32nd Raffles/2101 Raffles Scout Troop. Since its founding, the group has produced senior civil servants, businessmen, and active Scouters who continue to serve the Singapore Scout Association. Its alumni include Lee Kuan Yew, Zainul Abidin, Koo Tsai Kee, Rohan bin Kamis, Khoo Teng Chye and Dennis Foo. The group celebrated its 75th Anniversary with a campfire at Sarimbun Scout Camp in 2009.

The 02 Raffles Scout Group was founded in 1922. Then called the Second Singapore Scout Troop, 02 became the oldest surviving Scout troop of The Singapore Scout Association after the First Singapore Scout Troop disbanded. The current membership stands at 84. The Group's alumni include Goh Chok Tong, Tommy Koh, Professor Lim Pin, and Dr Tan Cheng Bock.

Raffles Debaters

[edit]

Founded in 1886, Raffles Debaters is the oldest debating society in Singapore as well as RI's oldest CCA. The club has performed consistently well in the Singapore Secondary Schools Debating Championships, winning the title in 7 out of the past 13 years. In addition, many alumni members have gone on to represent Singapore in the World Schools Debating Championships, widely regarded as the pinnacle of international debating, and have ranked among the top 10 individual speakers. The club's former members include luminaries like Mr Goh Chok Tong and Professor Tommy Koh.

Gap Semester

[edit]

I think that the Gap Semester program should be added in to this page, especially as the Year 1,2, and 3 orientiation programs are included in the wiki as well - I feel like it would be inappropriate if we exclude Gap Semester from the list but include orientation programs. Changes to "History" Section to support cleanup for Raffles Junior College article

[edit]

Hi all! an edit is ongoing to distinguish out Raffles Junior College (a former Institution that is under different administration), from its counterpart Raffles Institution. Since the article Raffles Institution already covered both the High School and the College sections, letting Raffles Junior College to remain in status quo will only overlap and mislead readers on the whole topic. It is more appropriate to independently present the existence of the former RJC, which functioned as a Government-aided JC with separate administration before 2009, as a piece of history. This is based on the consensus reflected at the section "Time to merge?".

Also, to better link up the history of RI, I will be dedicating a section for RJC (to show the history of RI's college section), and insert a link to this full article for RJC.

Will appreciate for any forms of support to help to sort out the history of RI and RJC, and to present their heritage in a more reader-friendly manner. Lyg 2001 (talk) 13:15, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
