Who drinks it?
[edit]Not to sound like a smartass, but wouldn't a jug wine drinker be a wine drinker and find jug wines unpalatable? If you don't wish to use the phrase 'wine snob' it's o.k. with me, but perhaps we should come up with a different phrase. Yours truly and madly, --User:Two halves
- The stereotypical 'jug wine drinker' is of limited means and is drinking the wine for intoxication rather than flavor. It is 1. one of the most inexpensive forms of commercially available alcohol (in terms of dollar per ounce of alcohol -- modify the units as you like) and is 2. dilute to a sort of ideal strength that allows rapid intoxication while making it difficult to achieve some of the more dramatic consequences of overconsumption.
- Actually, I know of some wineries that sell fairly high-quality wine in jugs, as a joke. I just uploaded a picture of one such winery's "refilling station" for customers who bring back their empty 1-liter jugs. ~Amatulić (talk) 01:45, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- Which has made the article very confusing. I've never seen a jug of wine, so when I came to this page and saw the picture I thought "jug wine is a term for wine in a barrel?". Also, you say that this picture is of an uncommon joke occurrence, so it probably isn't very descriptive of the usual environment of jug wine. I doubt that we need to be adding pictures to illustrate the containers of things. I'm going to find a replacement. Snied (talk) 20:18, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- That's fine. It was a picture I happened to have, and the article had none at the time, so I stuck it in. Also, nowhere did I say this picture is of an uncommon joke occurrence. I have no idea how common it is for wineries to sell high-quality wine in jugs. I do know of several wineries that do this. ~Amatulić (talk) 01:19, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, whatever; as you saw below, jug wine is associated with cheap wine in a jug container. A picture of expensive wine not in a jug container isn't particularly suitable. Snied (talk) 01:25, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Boone's?
[edit]Has anyone ever seen a jug of Boone's Farm? I figure "jug wine" would come in jugs. Is Boone's Farm even wine?206.190.137.34 (talk) 22:31, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- The term "jug wine" refers more to the low price than the container. Lots of it comes in bottles (like Charles Shaw wine for example). ~Amatulić (talk) 01:45, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
