Micronation Infobox An info box template has recently been created by myself and O^O for use in Wikipedia articles about micronations and other unrecognised entities, to address longstanding concerns and edit wars that have resulted from the inappropriate use of the standard country infobox in these types of articles.

This new info box has so far been successfully incorporated into the following articles: Sealand, Republic of Rose Island, Independent State of Aramoana, Empire of Atlantium, Avram and Province of Bumbunga, and it is intended to incorporate it into most of the other articles in the micronation category in due course.

However, one editor, Samboy has suggested that the micronation infobox should be excluded from Empire of Atlantium on the grounds that the article is "not notable" and because only 22% of micronation articles in Wikipedia currently have the info box (ie because the info box project is not yet complete).

As someone who has contributed to similar discussions in the past, I thought this might interest you. I have instituted a poll on this subject here, and invite you to review it if you are so inclined.

Thanks. --Gene_poole 06:24, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My personal issue with Gene Poole's action is that there is a conflict of interest here. One of the first micronations he added this infobox to is, conveniently enough, his own micronation. And, while he sets up a poll about whether we should add the template to the article, he did not mention the poll in WP:RFC, which is the best way to make the poll visible to people who have never been involved in the issue. Instead, he posts the existence of the poll on the user pages of a number of users who he feels are symphathetic to his micronation. User:Tony Sidaway has felt that this kind of campaigning is dishonest. Samboy 07:13, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

then why dont you help me by editing the Greenland post to fit in with the rest instead of elimanating it outright. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.237.54.62 (talk) 03:29, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Being Blocked <Topic Closed>

[edit]

I'm an innocent block-ee, help! The humanity!!!!!

There is no block on this account, and I see no sign that there ever has been one. That says to me that the most likely cause is colateral damage from a block of the underlying IP. I would need to know that IP in order to get the block cleared for you. I think, from the one time I got hit by a similar situation, that the block message you get when you try to edit should tell you the IP that is showing up as blocked. Post that IP here, and I'll look into why it was blocked. If it's a shared IP, as appears likely, then we can get the block removed, and get a notice on the IP that it is shared. - TexasAndroid 19:31, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The block is over, let all repressed editing flow forth!--Wilson(cc) 13:08, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

...Unblocked for two days and someone on my IP address 204.81.7.14, vandalizes something else, I am sooo glad I am getting out of school and onto a new (and hopefully, vandal free) ip address. I didn't even get to edit demoiselle creek...its just so sad :'( --Wilson 12:02, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am curious if it would be possible to just block people who do not have an account as this would solve the problem, I think...

No that isn't possible, there has been a proposed enhacnement but the details of how and when are not yet known --pgk(talk) 16:27, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was removed per WP:EL, which in this instance basic boils down to the issue that Wikipedia should NOT link to sites which are knowingly violating copyrights. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 01:53, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greenland

[edit]

My friend was refering to how the eskimo (pardon the phase) curtue in Canada and Greenland a very simular than in europe (which their are no eskimos except in Russia.)

and who said anything bout fighting a war? we could just buy it from the Danish like the USA tried to do.--66.240.108.182 (talk) 16:45, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • What you say about culture is true but the majority culture of Canada and Russia is European. Furthermore, having looked at several news releases from Greenland they appear more interested in a nation of their own then joining Canada(which did not appear to be mentioned). Racial nationalism does not bode well for greenland wishing to join Canada(see Quebec). As for the part about fighting a war, your friend brought it up when he mentioned the trouble over Hans Island I mearly pointed out that war would not go well for Canada. What the USA does is not a valid example as 1.they did not succeed and 2. no territory has been bought or sold in the last 100 years. Popular soverignty and self determination make such deals highly controversial. My position on this is the same as before, show me there is a movement(political preferably) advocating this in either country and I may support it.--Wilson (talk) 17:00, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

c'mon wilson, give me a hand here. --74.237.54.62 (talk) 19:33, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pirate Party of Canada

[edit]

You should also familiarize yourself with some of our policies at WP:NOT, specifically the one about how Wikipedia is not a directory. While it might be appropriate for a political party's main article to list key people involved in the party organization (with caution, as this can also lapse into WP:TRIVIA), it's not particularly useful or encyclopedic to have a separate article that just functions as a list of party officers, without any additional content or context. The point is that there are a lot of reasons why it hasn't been done that way for other political parties — and why the Pirate Party isn't somehow unique in needing it more than the others do.
