The article on Cardinal Léger should be Paul-Émile Léger. With few exceptions, we don't use titles in article names. - Montréalais
- We do with cardinals, as Efghij explained. FearÉIREANN 18:59 21 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- This is one of those exceptions. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles) - Efghij 23:59 20 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Fine, but if we're going to pipe it anyway, I don't see why what looks like Paul-Émile Léger should point to Paul-Émile Cardinal Léger. From reading the conventions, they seem to favour it simply out of a desire not to have to rewrite all the old articles. I don't see why we should do it for new ones. - Montréalais
- It is the standard that is being applied universally to cardinals and pipes are not being used. It is the agreed format. FearÉIREANN 18:59 21 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- There are good reasons for having these conventions. "Paul-Émile Cardinal Léger" is much more recognizable than "Paul-Émile Léger", and it's the official form used by the church. (see Talk:Naming Conventions (names and titles) Archive 7) - Efghij 18:14 21 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- I leave names of articles to others, but "Archbishop X Cardinal Y" is not how someone who is a cardinal and an archbishop should be referred to. It should be "Cardinal Archbishop X Y" or "X Cardinal Y, Archbishop of Montreal" or (less popularly) "Cardinal X Y, Archbishop of Montreal". It's just the way it's done... if there's a logic to it, it's that "Cardinal" is a title, but "Archbishop of Z" is an office. -- Someone else 00:01 21 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Shouldn't the above be merged with Roman Catholic Bishops of Montreal? Happy editing! Stormbay 21:27, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
