Bad article

Perhaps you'd like to add some information on building a good model. I don't think it's entirely fair to say that this page is a bunch of crap, I can't see anything untrue on it, it describes its title pretty accurately. As far as I'm aware this site wasn't made by French people but lots of nice things have been. Happy editing, Ams80 04:30 Mar 13, 2003 (UTC)

I agree with Ams80 – if you believe this article should include tips (basic, advanced, whatever) on building a good model car, then create a section and do so. Perhaps you may also include a list of sources one can consult to build that perfect model car. That said, I do think this article could use some work – perhaps someone out there can provide a brief history on model car kits and a list of outstanding or famous models. Update 2: for those looking for how-to advice on building model cars (or scale models in general), there are specific magazines, websites and model clubs. A wider History would be welcome

Hi all. I find the History section very incomplete as is basically the history of US model makers, and considering that most of the best brands currently on the market are non-US (Hasegawa, Fujimi, Tamiya, Italeri, etc) and many of them have a long and well known role in the history of model making I think it's worth mentioning also their contributions. You know, Cstevencampbell, something I don't like are editors who assume and try to mindread. Try again before making a "personal attack"/assumption. But part of this was my fault as well, since I didn't clarify. I already read the article before I added the notice, but there is no notice for US AND Europe. I've changed it to the general notice since this article fails to mention Canadian/Australian/Japanese models/history, and recent models/history from all other countries (i.e., Russia, China, India, Brazil, Mexico, etc.) It doesn't matter what you think, Cstevencampbell, this article is still biased (i.e., systemic bias). - M0rphzone (talk) 00:10, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

I was too harsh. My tone damaged a productive atmosphere. Accept my apology. I see what you were aiming at. I just get frustrated with all the Wikipedia police who critique, but won't write themselves. I will attempt to add in a section on second hand dies from first world producers soon (that would cover a lot of manufacturing in Latin America, and and the Mediterranean and Turkey). Russian 1:43 scale needs treatment here as well as mentioning the explosion in the former USSR of handbuilts. There is little on Tomica or Yonezawa or other Asian companies. Tips and Techniques for Painting and Building Model Cars

I noticed in one of the above posts that this page was lacking information or links in relation to how to build model cars and I couldn't agree more! I would like to share the page of one of the best and respected names in the hobby, Donn Yost. He's been featured in numerous model car magazines and won many model car shows over the years. He has his own website and dvd series with tips and tricks he uses to make his models look just like the real thing. He has pictures on his page of past and current builds, as well as a link in the about me section to his website with even more pictures, as well as the link to where you can purchase his dvds. Needs copyediting

This article is written like a book, not an encyclopedia article. Exclamation points and opinions do not belong in an encyclopedia except in quotations. There also seems to be a lack of inline citations and tons of irrelevant material. There doesn't need to be so many brand names dropped in every paragraph. I do not have access to most of the sources listed on this article, so I can't be of much help there. But I can continue to improve the wording. I just want to emphasize that we don't need to know every single detail about what every single obscure toymaker was doing at the time. We want to keep the page as concise as possible while still conveying the essential information. There is also the possibility that we can divide it up into separate pages, like a History of model cars or Model car collecting. --Iamozy (talk) 17:47, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
