Neal's Yard Edits

[edit]

Thank you for commenting on the edits I placed on the Neal's Yard entry. I'm new to Wikipedia and have spent quite a long time studying what is acceptable, happy to take advice but, to be honest, right now I am stumped as to why someone would delete a factual fully referenced entry. Not sure what to do next, can you help?

Horticus (talk) 20:24, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Had some feedback now for Verbal who seems to be accepting that it shouldn't have been deleted, any tips on what to do next, should I just re-enter the original post or add an intro as Verbal is suggesting? Help gratefully received.

Dante list

[edit]

Oh, I think it will be a record slow time. The only reason is because I'm making the list by reading the poem (in Italian and English) a coanto at a time, then looking up references from the notes in my lovely little pocket edition. Given that I speak English and Spanish, but no Italian, and that it is about 20 years since I read the comedy, this is going to take me some considerable time. Others who have expressed an interest know where the sandbox draft is and have already contributed. It seems less than useless to put this list in the main space until it has some kind of reasonably useful level of content in it. I will eventually move it, along with the history, so that it is plain to all how long it took.

Thanks for the interest. Filiocht | Blarneyman 13:58, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion

[edit]

And for the complement. I should have thought of creating the article as Nth Baron West and then moving it to Kth Baron De La Warr. As you may have deduced, I am doing this in part as a project in honor of the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown Colony. Robert A West 17:46, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments earlier (even though I didn't enjoy reading them :)). I have gotten rid of most of the red links, and converted the "end of table notes" to proper footnotes while are hyperlinked, and thus are just a click away. I fixed the broken sentance at the start of the intro, but I would appreciate any other feedback on what you think is missing from the intro. Thanks. Guettarda 29 June 2005 00:03 (UTC)

Thanks very much for your input and your vote. It certainly improved the article a lot.
With regards to naming, if I recall correctly, policy is to create articles at the "best known English name", or something like that. At "Tree of Life" they've been using latin names for plants because there are no standard common names (unlike say, birds). In the case of these snakes, some of the "common names" are actually made up by Boos. Others have several common names in Trinidad alone, and will probably have a few dozen more across South America. On the other hand, several of them have the same common name, and common names in one area might refer to a different species somewhere else. IMO, latin names as the best bet here. That said, of course, should someone want to move them to their common names, moves are easy. Again, thanks for your input and your vote. Guettarda 29 June 2005 12:40 (UTC)

Hello, you!

[edit]

Your friendly neighbourhood non-flammable garrick92. Thanks for your greeting, yes, it's me from GUT. Who were/are you? I'm intrigued ... Not sure if you'll get this, because I'm still figuring out how it all works, so if you drop me a line back at least I'll know you got it.

The SHC thing is in early stages yet, so I hope that the mini flame war (ho, ho!) will abate once people realise I'm not (consciously) pushing any agenda. It's a big topic, and (despite appearances) some authorities take it very seriously indeed. But, given the topic, it's something that is never going to satisfy everyone. Ho, hum. I do not repine. I have never satisfied anyone in my life, and I'm not about to start now.

Erm. Should I have posted this on my own talk page? I'm just blundering about till I find my feet, really. Looking forwards to this.

new missing articles encyclopedia problem

[edit]

Nice job on the Hutchinson 'pedia lists, I am working on another myself and was wondering how you get around the problem of deleting all the "blue" links at the start, as there will be 10's of thousands of them I would expect with maybe a couple of thousand "red" links? Bluemoose 16:00, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot, that is perfect. Expect to see a new high profile missing list in the near future! Bluemoose 16:34, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
One other problem, how did you change names from Smith, David to David Smith? thanks Bluemoose 17:43, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
here is the text file, containing 40,000 entries, a small amount are duplication, ms claims encarta has 60,000 entries though, I guess either they dont put all on the net, or not all count as being encyclopedic. It would be great if you could redo that query in access, but dont worry about it, I have asked magnus about it too. thanks Bluemoose 08:52, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Magnus ahs done it, no need to worry. thanks Bluemoose 09:10, 27 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Big favour

[edit]

Hey, I just made 3 more lists User:Bluemoose/physics User:Bluemoose/astronomy User:Bluemoose/chemistry, and am working on User:Bluemoose/maths. And i need to remove those damn blues, I tried the method you recomended to me before, unfortunately, when i copy and paste into word all the links turn blue (must have a different version or something), so they cant be separated from those reds. Could you please try it on the 3 lists above, dont worry about the formatting - I can sort that out really easily, I have put spaces in between with no numbering so hopefully your task (if you can do it) will be made easier when you paste it all back into wikipedia (as it remain as a list that way).

I think all you need to do is copy it into word, do your thing, then copy back in the plain text, i'll sort it out from there.

If you don't have time/can't be bothered/can't do it/hate me, then don't worry about it, it's cool, thanks a lot Bluemoose 16:57, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!! There is not nuch that can be done about those truncations, fortunately a lot are easily corrected. Nothing can ever be simple can it! User:Bluemoose/maths User:Bluemoose/maths2 User:Bluemoose/maths3 are up and ready. thanks again. Bluemoose 09:26, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
3 was bigger than the others, probably too big for word to handle all the links and spell checking, i have split it into User:Bluemoose/maths3 and User:Bluemoose/maths4, hopefully that will solve the problem. thanks --Bluemoose 09:17, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, i was just thinking about it, probably will get round to it this evening. good job on the above by the way, thanks Bluemoose 15:15, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK, it was actually pretty easy, User:Bluemoose/maths contains all the names, I tidied them up using find and replace in excel, and hopefully found all the truncated names, so it should be perfect other than the names are wrong way around, and blues need removing of course. Wow, I've no idea how I missed your edits at List of books with the subtitle "Virtue Rewarded" on September 8. (Of course I have the page watchlisted.) Thanks for pinging me, and thanks even more for your great research. I've replied on the talk page. Take a look at how the list has now fleshed out! :-) Have you seen the tabular version of it at User:Bishonen/prettytable sandbox? It's a lot less verbose, and I like the systematics of it. ;-) What do you think, which is better? I'd use the same Lead in either case, I thought. I haven't put in anything from your new information in the prettytable version yet—hey, maybe you'd like to do that yourself? Summarized, like. Come on, have a go! Thanks again for your great input. Obituaries

[edit]

Hello - you may not have noticed, but I have been watching your obituary "to do" list, and have added or augmented a couple of articles as a result. Although I haven't said so before, I think it is a useful list to compile (particularly as you have to move quickly with some of the broadsheets' websites, otherwise the obits become subscription only). I understand how much effort it must take: you haven't updated for a week or so - are you away, or have you given up? -- ALoan (Talk) 12:10, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Missing drama

[edit]

Hello – I just noticed your message on the talk page of BBC television drama suggesting some information on the wiping of drama programmes be added. I thought it was a good suggestion so I've added a paragraph to the end of the "Golden age of BBC drama" section – do let me know what you think, whether it covers the area sufficiently. Angmering 11:10, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your POPBot seems like a good idea. A few thoughts that came to mind. (1) Is it possible to alter it so that when the open proxies are editing the test page they enter a meaningful edit summary. (2) Is it necessary to edit on a live Wikipedia at all? Whatever the edit summary it will inevitably clog up recent changes to some extent. Is there not a test site somewhere running the same version of Mediawiki that you could use? (3) Do you have any sense of how much of a dent this will put in the problem? Are there any estimates of how many open proxies are out there, and at what rate your bot will find/block them? (4) Do the blocks work across all Wikimedia sites or just on enWiki? (5) Not knowing much about these things, is there any danger that genuine users will be trying to edit from the same IP address as these open proxies? OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 13:54, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Good questions. 1) Not entirely since I'd rather not publish the proxy port and optional alternate IP for all to see until they're blocked, but I've added some human readable text at the front. 2) Yeah, I know how annoying bots on WP:RC are, but seeing as some people have been kind enough to block their open proxies from editing wikipedia this is the only way to be sure we're not hitting any of those. 3) A reasonably decent one I hope. I started doing this in january but had to abort it for technical reasons, and judging by the increase in userpage vandalism it caused I'd say at the very least it annoys people (those could have just been annoyed RC patrollers though :-P). I'm not aiming to block all open proxies, there's millions of those, but if I can block 99% of those that can be found on open proxy lists on the web, I think it makes life a lot harder for those that are trying to avoid blocking or want to puppeteer. 4) I'm only an admin here, so it's just here for the time being. Someone from a different wiki approached me about blocking open proxies there too though, and I'd be happy to provide lists to them or run the bot there too (the scanning phase would only have to happen here). 5) Yes, there are a few users who's ISP proxy are open proxy. We usually arrange for their proxy to not be permablocked or for some other workaround to be arranged; At the moment those ISPs have been getting their things in order though, because in the past few weeks two major ISPs that had their proxies open have locked them down. And of course there's a few people who run tor outproxies, but that's a rather easily solved problem, we just ask them to block the outproxy from editing wikipedia and then unblock them. --fvw* 14:08, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OTB, I know you're working on a new version. I'm happy to wait and see what you propose, but I strongly believe that the one-in-three claim should be on there (it is solely Smith's), and the "distraction" and "zone of optimum performance" claims also originate specifically with SafeSpeed. You may have trouble removing other content (or rather, keeping it out, SS's supporters are extremely vociferous, but I am surprised at how inactive they have been here so maybe we'll be OK). - Just zis  Guy, you know? The Changes you made recently to the IR35 page

[edit]

The Changes you made recently to the IR35 page. You've removed one claim (that of over 1000 investigations, 3 were found in breach of the rules). The actual figures are 1161 and 3. They are based on investigations dealt with by various companies who advise taxpayers. So this is not just a 'biased' claim but in fact is documented and can be verified. In the absence of the any statistics from the government they remain the only published figures.

Further that a person caught (and therefore taxed as an employee). Under current case law this is again perfectly possible since under current case law no contract would be found between the worker and the 'employer'. In IR35 it is the very things that prevent such a contract which are ignored. IR35 does not judge on the actual situation but on what it looks like and makes various assumptions which an Employment Appeals Tribunal has shown a marked reluctance to do.

Template:Vanua Levu

[edit]

Hi there!

The IPA pronunciation is not only on the Vanua Levu template, but on all templates relating to Fijian geography - about 10 altogether, I think. This is because Fijian orthography is difficult for Foreigners (c pronounced as th, b as mb, q as a hard ng, and so on). Personally, I would have no objection to the removal of the pronunciation tips from the templates after I have completed the articles (currently stubs) on the various archipelagos, which will include a list of the islands in each archipelago, with the pronunciation. For now, I'd prefer to leave it in. David Cannon 10:40, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, by all means please do add the pronunciation to the articles themselves. That's half of the job! Thanks! Then, when the archipelago articles are complete, we can take down the "scaffolding", which will shorten the templates and make them fit the articles more readily. By the way, the usual IPA convention is to enclose the pronunciation in single brackets, like this: [la u ða la]. Once again, thanks! David Cannon 11:31, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all your hard work IPA'izing the Fiji island articles! In the next 48 hours or so, I'll expand the archipelago articles into lists, and remove the pronunciation from the templates. They the templates should fit many if not most of the pages:-) David Cannon 00:20, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for the advice you put on my page.

You could n't do me another favour. I am trying to find a way of explaining how Employers National Insurance works on the IR35 page. Chris seems to be under the impression that a client may pay it when in reality a client never pays it (only the actual employer pays it)

Also seems to think that the status of the contract (caught or otherwise) can be determined in advance. Again this never happens because the status can be based on a) Contracts never seen by the worker b) the way the contractor and client operate during the contract. [edit]

Thank you for your question, I'm more than happy to share my reasoning.

There were four explicit "support" votes and three "oppose" votes, but two of those "oppose" votes were for references to be cited. Before promoting I looked at the article and saw that a references section had now been added, although those two opposers had not cleared their points. I therefore considered their objections (insofar as they related to references) to have been met.

Of those two opposers, Ianbrown's comments (he initially supported before spotting there were no references) suggested he was strongly minded to support the list once it was referenced. This fact I took into consideration. Nichalp had another objection: he suggested that the list was not useful. No other editor expressed the same concern, and I personally disagreed with him - it is a list that is useful for those wanting information on the London Underground. Overall I considered that it was not a valid objection.

You yourself had two comments in your objections, both of which, indeed, could have been dealt with. The first, and main one, concerned whether a tabular format was more appropriate. Although a fair objection, it is not a "killer" objection - ie it is one that, to my mind, can be outvoted, and here no other editor also raised this as an objection. Thryduulf (the list's sponsor) did not ignore your point, but instead mocked up what a tabular list would look like on User:Thryduulf/List of London Underground stations in table format, before he came to the view that it was better as is. Your point about the length of the lead section is again not a "killer" point - it is one that could be outvoted. Having discounted, after careful consideration, the other two opposes, I considered that your points were indeed outvoted.

You will note that I counted three "oppose", not four. Although Susvolans made a comment, which could not be addressed, he did not oppose featuring the list. I considered him to be neutral, whilst making what may be a useful comment.

I did consider alternatives, such as allowing Nichalp and Ianbrown to explicitly remove their objections insofar as they related to references, or allowing more time for further comments or to see if your lead section comment might be addressed. But on balance, I thought that as the references point was so clearly already addressed, and the other objections were in a minority, the list had enough support to be featured.

All the best, jguk 18:22, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Tony Burman bio

[edit]

I saw your note, and contributions, at the Tony Burman bio. I just wanted to note that -- contrary to appearances -- I am not the subject of the article; we just have the same last name. The material in my draft was based on his official bio at cbc.ca. I just thought, given the increasing importance of CBC News in covering world events (e.g., 9/11), that there ought to be more information about the service.

Thanks, JTBurman 18:22, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the trim. Further to similar past comments I've made about the potential value of a CBC News sub-article, however, I do not agree with the removal of the material about what the English Services Division actually is. WikiProject Theatre

[edit]
Please check out the new design for the WikiProject Theatre page. You could say that "project page envy" led to the redesign. The French WikiProject Theatre page was much nicer looking than ours, so I spent a little time redesigning it. In addition, a theatre article assessment project has been started. This project aims to examine theatre articles, rate them and note what work needs to be done.

Yes, I intend to do a few hundred more manually then let SmackBot loose on a few hundred a day. I think this is the sort of thing people get sensative about, so I want to be sure it's as right a I can get it. I have a list of about 36,000 articles, in population order for the bot, and lots of smaller lists for manual work. Unfortunately the "random" list I choose as a sample had several very big populations in it. The good thing is I've had none of the complaints that are normally generated by much more minor edits. Thanks for the info, and a very easy solution. Photo has been removed. Eleemosynary 15:54, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I think this is a sensible solution.

You recently voted oppose for this article's request to become a featured list. The main or sole reason behind your choice to oppose was that there were many red links on the article. This was in the process of being attended to by Metropolitan well before I nominated this article for FL status, so I apologize that the article was not ready to become an FL as of then. Now, though, all but a few red links have been replaced by blue links.

For the time being, your oppose vote has been stricken out because your reason for opposing has been attended to. If you still believe this article should not become a featured list, please de-strike your comment and state a new reason. If you think that because of the lack of red links, it now deserves a support vote, kindly note that below your original vote and write "support". Thank you for your vote on that page. Clarence Thomas page

[edit]

Hi. If you get a second, would you mind stopping by the Clarence Thomas Talk page? I'm in a dispute with a user over whether the fact that Thomas performed, at his home, Rush Limbaugh's third wedding should be mentioned in the article. I think it does. The other user does not. I'd appreciate your input. Thanks. Eleemosynary 02:49, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It does seem to be having some effect in this case, and as long as the blocks don't cause collatoral damage (they don't seem to so far) I'll continue blocking if the vandalism continues. Petros471 10:55, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

An anonymous user seems to have added a template offering a bounty from you to the article Cairo Metro and possibly others. Is this indeed authorized by you? Afghanistan

[edit]

I notice that you removed the merger proposals from the pages for Farah and Qala i Naw. I have no particular disagreement with your action on Farah, but the action on Qala i Naw seems a little strange. In effect the merger proposal gets rid of a disambigulation page which disambigulates an article from a non-existant article. This seems to be creating disambigulation pages just for the sake of it. Do you want to have another look at it? Skinsmoke 00:39, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't feel strongly if you really want to merge the Qala I Naw pages. In general, though, I'm not averse to disambiguation pages where one of the entries is non-existent, as long as there's an expectation that it will be created in the future (and that should be our expectation with all geographical placenames). But like I say, I'm not too bothered - Farah always concerned me more. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 16:33, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AskMeNow

[edit]

Why is it that you would remove a link to AskMeNow in the 'see also' section of mobile search but leave the link to windows live search. How does that make any sense? AskMeNow deals specifically in mobile search and is using some fairly revolutionary semantic search technology. You've also marked the article for AskMeNow as spam. I don't understand, everything in the article is factual. The list goes on.

See reply on User talk:Mironearth. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 10:02, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That was out of line. And it certainly does seem like you've initiated some sort of personal vendetta against the AskMeNow entry. The old entry you keep reverting to has incorrect information. The company changed it's name and stock symbol in December, the application offering has moved far beyond a single BlackBerry platform to include all major mobile OS's as well as a universal SMS product and enterprise search engine offering, and there is barely any mention of how the search works. Also, the company does have proprietary search technology. You're arguing, and I'm still not sure why, that AskMeNow shouldn't be considered a search technology company because they send back answers instead of links. Ask Jeeves uses natural language search technology to send back answers to queries... are they not a search engine? I've made many revisions to the article to try and make it acceptable within the "subtleties of what's acceptable". Please stop reverting to innacurate versions. I'd also invite you to try using both windows live mobile search and compare it to askmenow's mobile search offering and then re-consider who should be linked on the mobile search page.
I don't mind if you edit the content at all. I was frustrated that you kept reverting back to old innacurate versions or tagging it as spam. Since I added the disclaimer to my last revision asking users to edit content, a couple of users did just that. I took what was there and used microsoft live for mobile as a template. I'll assume you don't have a problem with that entry since you left the link to them on mobile search and removed AskMeNow's. I've done my best to only state facts. Does the current revision work for you? If not what do I need to change? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mironearth (talkcontribs) 18:32, 16 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Hello! Can I ask you why it is apparently not accepted by you to write about Mediawiki in an encyclopedia article? To my opinion, it's objective, verifiable information with a neutral point of view. Thanks! --Dr. Friendly 17:19, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OTB will no doubt reply but I guess its WP:ASR although I think this guideline isn't always well understood. I guess it undermines the content of WP if we keep talking about ourselves. This one is a bit marginal. --BozMo talk 19:05, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, that was the policy I was following. I don't, however, have a problem with talking about MediaWiki - indeed, if you look at my edit you'll see that all I've done is to remove a slightly woolly reference to the software being "quite similar to that of Wikipedia itself" with a more specific mention of MediaWiki. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 08:40, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Falkland Islands articles

[edit]

Dear OpenToppedBus, thanks for your comment. Regarding the suggested merger between the 'Origins' and the 'Falkland Islanders' articles, I am not ethusiastic for reasons that are both of substance and technical; indeed I did consider and disfavoured such an option in advance as I took part in drafting both articles, and the present situation and prospects seem to confirm my original reasoning.

The current size of ‘Origins’ is already 21.6 KB. Furthermore, the article has a great potential for development, especially its sections on ‘Late 19th to early 20th century’ and ‘Post-Falklands War’, with more relevant aspects, details and sources on the contribution of various nations to shaping the Falklander identity (something on which I am working together with JacobNapoleon). Along with that development (which in particular would entail a better balance too), the article’s length may well exceed 30 or indeed 40 KB, closer to the point where Wikipedia:Article size advises to start considering the possibility for division not merger.

Second, if merged within the present ‘Falkland Islanders’ article the 'Origins' one would account for over 90% of the combined volume, making such a merged article fairly disproportional. On the other hand, if the other sections of the merged article (culture, geographic distribution etc.; even history as ‘origins’ is not exactly ‘history’) were more or less proportionally developed to reduce the share of its ‘Origins’ section to say 1/3 or less, then the overall length would be more than 60 KB, at which point Wikipedia:Article size says ‘Probably should be divided’.

And last but definitely not least, at its present level of information content and detail (to be further elaborated) the article is already too technical for the general ‘Falkland Islanders’ article.

Regarding the ‘Demographics’ title; Wikipedia seems to lack a unified approach there, which seems a little odd to me; there are French people, Scottish people, Britons, Spanish people etc. articles, but no "American people" (US Americans that is) or "Argentine people" articles, only Demography of the United States and Demographics of Argentina — and both Brazilian people and Demography of Brazil, as if the Americans or Argentines are some collection of different ethnic groups and less of a nation than the French or the Brazilians! As a matter of fact many ‘Demography of’ titles seem to have been copy-pasted from the CIA World Factbook, where however they are section titles not article titles. Best, Apcbg 13:39, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your objections have been addressed. Please take a look at the article now. I can hardly recognize it myself. The Transhumanist 07:24, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Theatre March 2008 Newsletter

[edit]
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (March 2008)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 1 - March, 2008

Hello and welcome to this, the first ever edition of the WikiProject Theatre Newsletter! If you haven't been over to the WikiProject page lately then you're missing out - the whole thing has undergone a complete makeover - see below for more info!
On top of this, we have brand spanking new templates (such as this one) and a completely revamped Collaboration of the Month - again, see below for more info on all of this.
Finally, a warning - the new-look WikiProject is still having the finishing touches put on it. If you find something that doesn't work, you don't agree with or is just plain missing, please don't hesitate to let us know on the WikiProject's talk page. We'll try our very best to fix ASAP!

New Look

As mentioned above, the WikiProject has recently undergone a spring-clean and we're dead excited about it! If you don't mind - we'd like to take this opportunity to explain some of the features and generally show off about it a little.

  • Colour scheme Those clashing colours have gone! All pages on the WikiProject now use two consistent shades of blue as part of the new streamlined interface (Those techies amongst us may wish to know that the precise names of the colours we use are: "lightsteelblue" for headings and "#c0e0e0" for backgrounds).
  • Navigation Menu Every page on the WikiProject now has the official WikiProject navigation menu so you can easily flick between pages and get back to the main project page. Say goodbye to clicking the back button several times!
  • To Do list/Open Tasks If you're stuck on what to do to help us then a list of the most important tasks is now available on the main page - no more excuses! At the moment, the list is looking a little short so if you have found something that you think ought to be added, then feel free to edit the list and let us know. Please refrain from linking to a specific article that generally needs an overall update. Single articles like this should be nominated for a future Collaboration of The Month - see below.
  • Article Structure This is a first for the WikiProject and is still under construction. What is the Article Structure page? Well, it's basically a rough guideline of sections to include when creating theatre-related articles - in particular, plays. As the scope of this WikiProject is so large, some sections of the Article Structure won't apply to all articles and other sections which will apply to a small cross-section of our article base have not been included in this Article Structure page. If you feel we have missed out something crucial which needs adding to most or all theatre-related articles then feel free to discuss it on either the Article Structure talk page or the main WikiProject talk page
Templates

All of the project's templates are now arranged in one handy page. Whilst we were going through we also noticed some that were missing. We have now added new templates in the form of:

  • {{WPTWelcome}} - a welcome tag to be placed on the talk page of a new user.
  • {{User WPTheatre}} - a userbox for members of the project.
  • {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Theatre/Sidebar}} - this template should be added to the side of any/all pages within the project to help navigate between project pages.
  • {{WPTheatre User}} - the template containing the latest edition of the WikiProject Newsletter (you're looking at it now!)
Collaboration of the Month

Ok, so this isn't exactly a new feature. It's always been there but has never really been updated on a, ahem, monthly basis (the clue is in the title!). The Collaboration of the Month (COTM) is now in template form to enable it to be streamlined across the Project, without having to be manually updated on each page. Don't worry if we've lost you at this point - the point is, it works! You can now nominate an article for COTM on the COTM page and we promise to adhere to it this time! It will be updated monthly! The more sharp-eyed amongst you may well have noticed that the COTM at the moment is still that old fella, August Strindberg. That's because no-one has nominated a COTM for this month (being a new feature an' all...) so we've decided to leave it as it is for this month until a new one has been democratically voted for.

And finally...

Thanks very much for reading down this far - hopefully future newsletters won't be this long! Please, if you can, invite new members and drop us a line over at the talk page to let us know what you think of the new look/newsletter and any suggestions you may have.

You have received this newsletter because your name is on the list of Participants on the WikiProject page. WikiProject Theatre April 2008 Newsletter

[edit]
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (April 2008)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 2 - April, 2008

Welcome to the second edition of the WikiProject Theatre Newsletter. This month's newsletter is focused mainly on recruitment and generally upping the profile of the WikiProject. Read on to find out more...

Recruitment

Just in case you haven't had a chance to head on over to our new-look WikiProject yet, this is to let you know that on the Templates page there is now a new "Welcome banner" which is to be placed on any new members talk pages. However, it is yet to be used as we haven't had any new members join the WikiProject within the last month! If you know of a user which has been contributing to theatre-related articles recently then why not drop them a line on their talk page and invite them to come and join us? That way, we can finally use thour lovely shiny new Welcome banner template. We hope eventually to be able to use this newsletter to show off about the vast numbers of new members we have joining us each month, rather in the way that the newsletters of other WikiProjects do.

Collaboration of The Month

This month's COTM has remained unchanged as no-one has nominated any articles to become the new incumbent. Quick - get yourself down to the COTM page and nominate an article for next month!

Assessment

Just a note to say that there are two articles down at the Assessment page which have requested assessment. Please could a member of the project pop over and assess them for us? It's only a small task.

Whilst we're on the subject of assessment, an ongoing task is to assess every article within Category:Unassessed Theatre articles, feel free to make a start on a few when you have a moment.

And finally...

Don't forget to add the WikiProject Theatre userbox to your userpage to spread the word about the project!

We're currently looking for members to volunteer in the compiling of this newsletter each month - please drop us a line at the talk page if you're interested in helping - be it in the delivery or writing processes of it!

You have received this newsletter because your name is on the list of Participants on the WikiProject page. If this information is out of date and you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, please remove your name from the Participants list and also click here to stop receiving the newsletter.

Welcome to our third newsletter - we've got lots to get through this month so without further ado, let's crack on...

The Big Debate - Character Lists in Play Articles

For those of you who haven't headed over to our talk page recently - you've been missing out! Throughout the past month there's been great discussion about the issue of character lists in play articles. The aim is to form a standard presentation of character lists to be used on all play articles so if you'd like to make your voice heard on the issue then check out the talk page now.

Collaboration of The Month

The number of articles at the Assessment page are growing - if you're feeling a little lost and don't know where to begin to help us out, head on down to the Assessment page and give us a hand.

New members

The past month has seen Dereksmootz, Duckie for broadway, Dozenthey, Fewster, Nrswanson, Kleinzach and Broadweighbabe join us - welcome to you all! It's wonderful to see such a large influx of new members.

If you've been editing a theatre-related article recently and noticed another user helping you who also appears to have an interest for the subject of theatre, why not drop them a line and invite them over to the project?

HELP!

We're crying out for people to help us out wherever possible. We are currently looking for members to volunteer to give us a hand in several areas. If you can do any of the following, please drop us a line at the talk page:

  • Newsletter Editor(s) - Always fancied yourself as a bit of a journalist? Perhaps you could help us write this newsletter - it doesn't take long to compile. Maybe you'd like to help but can't commit on a regular basis? In that case, why not rally round a few other members of the project to help you out and take it in turns each month to compose the newsletter?
  • Mailmen/women - If writing the newsletter isn't your bag then maybe you could help in the distribution of this fine document? As our membership grows it becomes quite laborious to send it to everyone. It's only a quick task that needs doing once a month, and really is just a case of copying and pasting a template onto our members talk pages.
  • Portal editor(s) - It's come to our attention that the Theatre Portal hasn't been updated in a long time and we'd like to get someone, or a group of people to take charge of it and get it up to the standard of some of the great portals out there (e.g. the Comedy Portal, the Solar System Portal etc).
And finally...

Don't forget to add the WikiProject Theatre userbox to your userpage to spread the word about the project!

Request re:India House

[edit]

Hello OpenTopped Bys, I was wondering if I could ask you for one more favour. You may remember you helped out a lot by copyediting India House last month. This artilce is currently listed for FAC. A reviewer in the FAC mentioned quite strongly that the text is not upto the mark. I thought it would help a lot if you had a look and suggested any improvement you feel maybe neccessary. Please understand that I am neither looking for your support in the FAC, nor am I asking you to comment on wether it deserves or not to be FA, since I realise this would be canvassing. Nontheless, any comments on improving the article would be extremely welcome. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 01:37, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Lashkargah District

[edit]

The article Lashkargah District has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

We already have a page for Lashkar Gah district of Helmand, Afghanistan

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ketabtoon (talk) 04:21, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

About the district matching in Afghanistan...

[edit]

Hey OpenTop, i've checked all the references that you posted and it's indeed the most recent up-to-date info I've ever seen ever since after June 2005. However, I have added and/or updated this article as it should be, with all the 398 districts (the newly created ones have been briefly explained with its former area-owned districts. Take care. jlog3000 (talk) 00:06, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

re:thanks

[edit]

No problem. I have a temporary contract at a public organization but I finished the necessary work a month in a half. I started rearranging the information i had gathered over the past 3 months on the common driver at work, but most of the people who work here check wikipedia before they check anywhere else, and its much easier to organize it like that. So I've had lots of time to update things regarding Afghanistan, human rights abuses, etc. that can be used here at work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grant bud (talkcontribs) 11:53, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Adetona Gabriel Balogun for deletion

[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Adetona Gabriel Balogun, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adetona Gabriel Balogun until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. J04n(talk page) 02:04, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I hadn't logged in for a while so I didn't see this notice until the article had already been deleted, but I agree that the deletion is entirely appropriate. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 11:13, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lists of famous or notable players are unverfiable and constitute as POV and original research. This is why they are usually linked to club player categories, especially for non-League clubs who's players aren't automatically notable. --Jimbo[online] 18:45, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I am keen to open a discussion with you regarding the Neal's Yard Remedies page - I would like to make some additions to the content as I feel for the 30 years the brand has been around, there is a lot of information that could and should be included in order to give a much fuller view of both the brand itself and it's history and also the work it has done over it's lifespan. I would like to know what your feelings are regarding me making these additions and whether you forsee any issues in me going ahead and doing this.
