Abbreviation

[edit]

What does "standard abbreviation: ED" mean? Standard where? RickK 05:00, Jul 22, 2004 (UTC)

  • Definitely confusing, but I can't think of a concise way of saying it. ED is the Kansas standard 2-letter county abbreviation. It is used primarily as a designator on license plates for county of origin, specifically for personalized licesne plates. Due to provisions in Kansas vehicle registration laws, each county can issue a set of plates, identical except for the 2-letter county abbreviation. It is also used as a designator for in-state law enforcement teletype communications; i.e. EDxSO is the agency abbreviation for the Edwards County Sheriff's Office. If you can find a way to say that other than standard abbreviation, feel free. Right now, it seems to be a common phrase in entries for Kansas counties. --DennyJay 15:36, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
