origin of the word machete

[edit]

the word 'machete' comes from 'makhaira' a weapon used in ancient times very similar to the modern machete. the source indicating otherwise, saying that the machete comes from the word 'macho' is ridiculous, and only speculates without any evidence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.175.249.180 (talk) 06:54, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have found a citation explaining the etymology of the word machete, and have added it to the article. Hopefully that helps.

Why is in the "American inventions" category?

[edit]

The machete existed before the US was a thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Last edited by: (talkcontribs) 03:36, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There is a section in this article about machetes made by the Collins company. This is not needed and should be redirected. Please do so. 49.192.44.178 (talk) 11:50, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
