Current requests for increase in protection level
[edit]Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Reason: After the previous protection expired, the pseudo-Ukrainian POV pushers returned to replace Kiev with Kyiv and Russian by Ukrainian. This has been going on for years, and the article is covered by WP:RUSUKR. We are clearly ready for an indefinite semi-protection. Ymblanter (talk) 20:43, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Ymblanter: I only have a faint recollection of the Kiev/Kyiv edit wars. I see that article talk refers to WP:KYIV. However, I've had a very hectic time off-wiki and am incapable of finding the wording in WP:KYIV that supports "Kiev" at Aleksandra Ekster. Also, is there a clearer explanation about the Russian/Ukrainian dispute other than "confusing nationality with ethnicity"? Johnuniq (talk) 08:51, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- Semi-protected indefinitely. As WP:ARBEE. The page was protected for one year 2022-2023, and for one year 2023-2024, so I've set the protection not to expire this time. Sorry, I somehow overlooked the comment above 'till after protecting and logging. Hope that's okay. @Ymblanter and Johnuniq: courtesy pings. El_C 16:42, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. @Johnuniq: I am on holidays now, but I am pretty sure the last RfC on Kyiv was closed by stating that Kyiv is post-1991. It is often being stretched to post-1917, which is a grey area, but Exter was born before that anyway. Russian/Ukrainian is a content dispute in which sides usually do not care to bring non-partisan (or usually any) sources, and the last IPs did not even try. Current requests for reduction in protection level
[edit]Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Current requests for edits to a protected page
[edit]Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Remove "the Israeli government has historically interpreted any criticism of its actions as antisemitism" from the last sentence of the last paragraph of the opening section.
This specific text should be removed, as it makes a poorly founded and sweeping statement via the wording of "any criticism", hence hurting the neutrality and quality of the page. None of the cited sources prove that the Israeli government claims "any criticism" of Israel is antisemitism.
Aside from the problematic wording of "any criticism", the text also links to another article on "Weaponization of antisemitism", which itself is a deeply contested and controversial discussion. The IHRA working definition of antisemitism has been widely adopted by numerous governments, academic institutions and NGOs and specifies instances where unfair criticisms of Israel, under certain circumstances, may be considered as antisemitic. The text in the article serves to directly dispute/discredit the IHRA working definition of antisemitism, which is inappropriate and biased for a Wikipedia article, particularly on such a contentious topic.
The text should instead mention the Israeli government's claims of antisemitism, while not claiming that it labels all criticisms as such. It is in fact incorrect to claim so, as numerous figures within the Israeli government itself, as well as prominent figures from Israeli society, are openly critical of Israel's current policies. Autopatrolled[edit]
Has created roughly 30 articles by my count; only one stub, my spotchecks found nothing concerning. Diverging Diamond (is Queen of Hearts's alt; talk) 19:10, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
For a third time, I'm applying for autopatrolled rights; my first request was denied in April 2023, and my second request was denied in June 2024. The reason for the first decline was that my previous articles were tagged for "notability." After that decline, I worked on bringing articles over from the Russian Wikipedia and had relatively few problems when other editors were reviewing them (I don't bring over everything from those respective pages, so I added a tag for expanding from Russian to let others know that information is still there). The reason for the second decline was that I moved one of my BLP articles back into the mainspace without changing the sourcing, and it was eventually deleted (that was a mistake on my part). Now, roughly two months later, I have had little to no problems with the other articles I have brought over. I respectfully request that I be granted the autopatrolled permission this time around, as I believe it will help lighten the NPP workload to some extent. Thanks in advance for your consideration. I ask permission to translate from English to Italian and viceversa without waiting for the 30 days and 500 edits limits... I would like to add more information about my family and my ancestors (Barattucci, in Wikipedia I found only Antonio: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Barattucci) but I don't think I will reach 500 edits during this process.. and I'd like to translate the pages into English too. Also, I'd like to translate into Italian the page of the Adragna family (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adragna_family), one of its member is my friend Marta Adragna and she asked me to create the Italian version. Thanks in advance, Fabio Barattucci. DucaTux (talk) 22:42, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
My previous account was User:Toobigtokale, I had it closed per WP:RTV but decided to make a new account per WP:CLEANSTART as per the instructions on RTV. On my previous account I was extended confirmed and also had access to WP:AutoWikiBrowser. My account was consistently in good standing, had around 77,000 edits on it. Samples of my past work: 1883 Korean special mission to the United States, Utoro, Uji I'd like to get access to EC status early so I can edit some locked Korea-related pages. seefooddiet (talk) 08:05, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
Reason for requesting extended confirmed rights I am requesting the Extended Confirmed User flag to enhance my contributions to Wikipedia. I have consistently provided well-researched, high-quality content, such as the detailed history section of topics related to Punjab and Sikhism. With this flag, I can more effectively address vandalism, deal with edit wars, and collaborate with other users to improve articles. My commitment to maintaining Wikipedia's standards and guidelines ensures that my contributions are reliable and valuable. MixedHarsH (talk) 18:29, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

I want to reduce the massive backlog. I have been looking at the new pages patrol feed sporadically for the past two months and the backlog keeps increasing. I want to play a part in reviewing the articles. HRShami (talk) 11:19, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
Hello there, I am interested tn helping out in new page reviewing as there are very large articles backlog and love to do so. Xegma(talk) 07:10, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
I would like to request new page reviewer rights to help review newly-created articles and lower the backlog. I have accepted lots of drafts at AFC and participated in many AfDs with deep discussions to exhibit my knowledge of notability, as I was advised previously. Thanks! Waqar💬 19:55, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

I have been editing for over 7 years and I plan on using this permission in order to help with discussions on WP:RM and deal with cross-redirects for articles that should have more disambiguated titles. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 12:46, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

I was granted pagemover rights nearly a month back, but due to mistakes on my part, the rights have been now revoked. So, I am requesting the rights again on Primefac's advice, explaining why I made the mistakes and how I shall avoid those mistakes going forward.
I've learnt from my mistakes and hope not to repeat them. I also aim to minimise any chance of any other mistakes on my part. PadFoot (talk) 17:56, 30 July 2024 (UTC) |

Rollback[edit]
I've been patrolling recent changes for a while now, using Twinkle to warn members. I have over 200 mainspace edits, and I'm extended confirmed with over 700 edits total. I've also been doing NPP for a little too. I'd like to use rollback for more advanced tools such as Huggle and AntiVandal. Thanks, Lordseriouspig 06:14, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
I've been viewing recent changes for a while with Twinkle, and would like to keep using the Android app to prevent vandalism, which requires rollback permissions. I am aware, after reading others' requests, that warning users after edits must be done every single time. While there are moments in which I have forgot to do this in the past, I will ensure to make it a consistency going forward. LR.127 (talk) 00:54, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
I have been monitoring Recent Changes for around a month now and would like to use Huggle to help me do it, but this requires rollback. I just want to admit it here: at the start I did not always warn users but I do warn all the time now. Either way, thank you! win8x (talking | spying) 01:23, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
I have been patrolling recent changes since late June and believe access to more advanced tools like Huggle would enhance my anti-vandalism work. I understand the importance of warning users after every revert and believe I have been consistent in doing so. Thanks for your consideration. Wburrow (talk) 17:51, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

"Do you want to take a survey?"
[edit]On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.
On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.
Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.
