Distance
[edit]NED gives a drastically different distance than is cited in the article: http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nph-objsearch?objname=m+90&extend=no&out_csys=Equatorial&out_equinox=J2000.0&obj_sort=RA+or+Longitude&of=pre_text&zv_breaker=30000.0&list_limit=5&img_stamp=YES gives Luminosity Distance : 1.22 Mpc (m-M) = 25.43 mag and D (Local Infall) : 1.84 +/- 0.15 Mpc (m-M) = 26.32 +/- 0.17 mag 1.22 Mpc = ~4Mly, not 60. I'll correct it in the article, but could someone let me know how it got to be 60 Mly? --Keflavich 22:33, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- DO not trust NED's distance estimates, especially for galaxies in the Virgo Cluster such as NGC 4569. NED's calculation are based on flow-corrected distances which are going to be inaccurate for the environment around the Virgo Cluster. This galaxy should be listed as much further away. I am reverting the article. Dr. Submillimeter 22:53, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- Just for reference NED 2010 now gives REDSHIFT-INDEPENDENT DISTANCES when avaliable. NED shows a distance of 13.3 ± 4.9 Mpc (43 ± 16 Mly). -- Kheider (talk) 20:45, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
