Great work
[edit]Great work, Adam. Readable, full of interest, to the point and (so far as my limited knowledge of Australian history can confirm), very well-balanced. An important topic well-covered. Tannin 10:09, 22 Sep 2003 (UTC)
As I recall, Newsweek forms a separate section within The Bulletin in Australia, New Zealand and some other Pacific countries. The masthead usually says 'THE BULLETIN with Newsweek'. More readable than Newsweek, though. Boffin 22:35, 3 July 2004 (UTC)
Other uses
[edit]At present searching on Wikipedia for "bulletin" brings up only this entry, but this is a specific magazine - what about other uses of the word such as bulletin (discussion) board and a report from a battle or similar? I lack the Wikiknowledge to arrange this so would be happy for others to do it. --Thoughtcat 06:48, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- OK, worked it out - "bulletin" now goes to a disambig page with links to various entries including this one. --Thoughtcat 19:31, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Cancellation
[edit]The Bulletin appears to have been cancelled. ABC radio and Sky News are reporting it's been cancelled "as of the current issue". I can't find an online copy of the press release Jon Faine read out on air a few minutes ago, and I'll leave it to others to add to the article, but it's certainly a significant day in Australian media history. Cynarion (talk) 00:00, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it's been axed. Lester 01:00, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- there may yet be some developments with the SMH reporting Kerry Stoke's Channel 7 may be interested in buying the magazine [1]. There are also going to be some obituaries - eg http://business.smh.com.au/from-modest-beginnings-grew-a-rich-legacy/20080124-1nw8.html --Matilda talk 05:18, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Requested move 18 January 2019
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: page moved to The Bulletin (Australian periodical). (non-admin closure) Steel1943 (talk) 14:11, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
The Bulletin → The Bulletin (Australian magazine) – There is half a zillion publications with the name of The Bulletin, not to mention those titled Bulletin. Plus those colloquially referred to as The Bulletin. After the move, The Bulletin can be re-targeted to Bulletin (disambiguation). Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 08:02, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
- Provisional support: It is primary topic, but it's not primary enough (easier to see with logarithmic box ticked). For most of its life, The Bulletin was a newspaper.[2][3] Thus, The Bulletin (Australian periodical) would be a better title.[4] ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 09:55, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support but move to The Bulletin (Australian periodical) - WP:NOPRIMARY and per nom. The format began as more clearly a newspaper, and was revived as a magazine. (periodical) covers historic and modern formats. -- Netoholic @ 11:45, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support The Bulletin (Australian periodical) per Hydronium Hydroxide and Netoholic. Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 15:41, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
- comment please see that The Bulletin is distinguished from anything that is 'a' bulletin, and that an important work is able to be found among a list of half-titles a la 'bulletin of the scrimshaw society of Springfield, somewhere USA' cygnis insignis 17:11, 19 January 2019 (UTC) add support for The Bulletin (Australian periodical). which addresses some of my concerns. cygnis insignis 06:37, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support move to The Bulletin (Australian periodical). There are enough other titles called The Bulletin to justify disambiguation of the Australian periodical in its historical newspaper and magazine formats. Rangasyd (talk) 08:27, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support move to The Bulletin (Australian periodical) per above JarrahTree 00:02, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

- Doing some now - note that there are a number which were inaccurately targetted. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 02:49, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
- Done Articles are clean / Not done 100+ links remain in other spaces. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 01:58, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you! I've fixed a few links from Portal: space. The rest are from talk and project pages which should probably stay as they are. Certes (talk) 02:11, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
Dates range for Editors
[edit]While the work is great in showing us the names of editors, as a quick reference to discover who was editor of what, when? it would be really great if someone would indicate such next to the editors names. However - thanks for a great page and it looks like it is coming together well!ArchStudos (talk) 03:42, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
Demise
[edit]No mention of Time magazine's fierce competition for Australian readers and advertisers. Time was streets ahead for international news and culture, and may be the reason The Bulletin brought in (the inferior) Newsweek. Time, if I remember right, had a brighter layout and smoother paper, and was determinedly witty. The Bulletin was doggedly anti-labour and pro-investor, or speculator rather, epitomised by the two best-written columns: The Modest Farmer (Bert Kelly) and "pip pip" Pierpont (Trevor Sykes). As for the internet being responsible for The Bulletin's downfall, I'd be surprised. Speculators were receiving stock market information by dial-up in the early eighties, but not general readers.
