Origin
[edit]The initial edit of Francis (after the renaming of the former article to Francis (actor)) was replacement of the renaming-created redirect with a disambiguation text. That text was composed by User:Patricknoddy, who improperly pasted it over Francis without first renaming Francis. --Jerzy, 19 September 2004
Emphasis on the e?
[edit]Writing that the female form, Frances, has "emphasis on the e", sounds in this context like a phonological statement, which is not true in my experience - I've never heard the name pronounced "franCESS". I take it that the intent was that in writing the difference between the names is indicated by the i/e distinction (which is not heard in speech). Am I right? If so the statement should be clarified. 62.219.137.155 (talk) 12:49, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Origin of name
[edit]Whether or not "Francis" came from "Francis of Assisi" needs a source, not ourselves, but some authority. So I've removed that sentence. If you can find a credible source for this claim, post it. Thanks. Wjhonson (talk) 03:29, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
Deriviation claim unreferenced
[edit]The page at present states: Francesco was the name given to Saint Francis of Assisi by his father in memory of the boy's mother, a Frenchwoman, who died when the child was still in his early years. Not only does this lack any reference (for which a "citation needed" template has been added), this contradicts what's written on the Francis of Assisi page (citation provided). -- Deborahjay (talk) 13:20, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
